Thesis Title: Direct Photon Production in Quark Gluon PlasmaI analysed the transverse momenta (pT ) spectra of Direct Photons, which are an excellent probe of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) produced during heavy-ion collisions, to obtain the effective temperature (Teff) of QGP. The chief production channels of direct photons, thermal and prompt, have unique properties which modify the entire direct photon spectra in their own ways. With the help of simulated data from the Pythia event generator, pT spectra from each production channel were fitted using Tsallis and Pearson distributions, first individually and then together, to obtain the effective temperature of QGP. Comparisons were made between the Teff obtained from the inclusive direct photon spectra from simulated data and experimental data (from the ALICE experiment of Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV) and an interesting inference could be drawn.
