Sustainable affordable housing is more than just about cheap and quick solutions. Yes the issue is huge and urgent - here in New Zealand we require at least 650,000 new homes over the next 30 years, and that’s nothing compared to the needs of many other countries. But a cheap and cheerful becomes expensive and miserable very quickly - it might have a low capital outlay, but its running and maintenance costs soon overtake, while the home deteriorates around its occupants. And the mental and emotional stresses around that soon overwhelm and diminish any quality of life.At deZignsite we have developed a method of construction using the following principles:• Commercial construction methods applied to residential housing.• An extended-modular approach to cladding and insulation.• Ease of location, relocation and re-levelling as required.• The ability to go up as apartments, as well as singular on grade as required.• Designed specifically for OSM – it has the benefit of hindsight and the availability of contemporary methods and technologies.• Designed specifically for access and mobility - a Lifemark™ audit is underway.• Ease of adaption or alteration as required, with no need to re-structure, therefore reducing the need to re-consent.• Exceeds the NZ Building Code and already complies with the anticipated building standards in the 2023 release of NZS3604:2011.Combined with this is the use of premium grade and toxin-free materials - now in association with Health Based Building® and their Foreverbreathe™ materials and specifications, creating a living environment that is comfortable, timeless, accessible - and above all - safe. We call them Structive™ modules using SADDLEFOOT™ footings. And to this we are adding a relook at the design, manufacture and performance of windows - we’re calling them QUIETLIGHT™.
