After completing the graduate scheme, i was offered the opportunity to continue as part of the hedging team at Opus. This role has allowed me to build on the knowledge and experience i've gained already, and work in areas i enjoy such as statistical analysis and wholesale commodity markets. I am also now leading on gas hedging and credit operations.

A 2-year commercial graduate scheme in the hedging & forecasting team at Opus energy, a subsidiary of Drax Group. In this role i quickly developed a sound understanding of the business, hedging strategies and the GB energy system. Projects i completed include:- Decay analysis of both electricity & gas portfolios to optimise weekly hedges- Updating the method of statistical reporting to DESNZ- Analysis into demand during Christmas & Easter periods to produce forecast amendments for these non-typical periods.- Automation of some daily operational tasks using Python.- Graduate-cohort wide project working with senior stakeholders across multiple departments to improve internal & external recognition for employees, presented to the CCO.
