When I was very young, my father tried to teach me how to start a fire using only two pieces of wood to rub together. Eventually, a small flame caught, but the real spark lit in my imagination, which has ever since taken inspiration from the ways that technology shapes people and their relationships to each other, even as they shape that technology.Much of my professional effort has focused on the people side of that interaction, abstractly, through two advanced humanities degrees, and concretely, through customer service and management roles. More recently, I've gained intimate knowledge of the technological part, becoming a "full-stack" web application developer working in Ruby on Rails. For me, "full-stack" understanding links not only the database back-end to the user interface on the front, but also the human to the technological.My passion for both technological innovation and cultural enrichment makes me a rare example of someone with aptitude and interest for seeing the big picture and for implementing technical solutions. As such, I have cultivated both "hard" skills, like writing test-driven code, and debugging, and "soft" skills, like analyzing problems appropriately to their cultural and historical specificity, and talking with stakeholders to ensure development goal clarity. Critical thinking, effective communication, creativity, and contextual awareness have enabled me to excel in philosophy and literary study, and now give me a competitive advantage in crafting web applications. Enthusiasm for learning, imagination, attention to detail, problem solving, teamwork, self-directed initiative-taking, and project management all have played important roles in my academic achievement, and continue to prove great assets in the software development world.I am always interested in making new professional connections.
