After serving in the United States Marine Corps., Dick Smith began his career on Wall Street in 1959 with Baxter & Co. in the trading, underwriting, and sales department. After two years he moved to Kormendi & Co. to trade a broader range of securities. There he was responsible for trading U.S. Treasury Securities, Corporate Bonds, Foreign Securities, Municipal Bonds, and Equities. From 1963-1965, Dick worked for New York Hanseatic Company and was tasked with opening a Fixed Income operation in Chicago. There he also worked for Stern Brothers and Banc Northwest over a period of twelve years, specializing in the sale of Fixed Income securities to institutional accounts. In 1977, he was hired by Seattle-Northwest Securities where he served as Vice President in Institutional and Dealer sales. In 1985, Dick founded R.W. Smith & Associates, Inc., a Brokers-Broker specializing in Municipal Securities. He went on to open offices throughout the United States. Realizing an opportunity in early 1994, Mr. Smith founded and was CEO of Agincourt, Ltd., a US-Registered, Bermuda based, Institutional Broker-Dealer which specialized in portfolio structuring and trading for large multi-national corporations and high net-worth individuals. In mid-2000, Dick expanded his business to include all Fixed Income products, and formed R.W. Smith Fixed Income. In 2009 R.W. Smith & Assoc. amended its license and is now an Interdealer-Broker. Dick has also been involved in numerous professional societies, including the Municipal Forum (New York), Municipal Bond Club (Chicago), Exempters Club (Chicago), and The Washington & Seattle Bond Clubs. Dick organizes and regularly participates in seminars for the Municipal Bond industry, general economic and legislative discussion groups, and personal / professional development programs.
