When the new team joined in spring 2014, the HR function had a terrible reputation – unresponsive, poor data and regular payroll errors. We didn’t know precisely how many employees we had or whether they had the right to work in the UK. We were late with pay and benefits renewal and pension autoenrolment. Cases had been outstanding for months, even years.Since then, we have transformed practice in training, appraisal, benefits, pay planning, data management, pensions, absence management, communications, engagement, succession and career development. Costs have been reduced by outsourcing and system improvements. On resourcing, we ran a TUPE transfer and hired colleagues from Capgemini India on secondments to the UK. The HR function is now seen as an exemplar.
