Served as the lead reviewer of License Amendment Requests for the extension of the operating domain for BWRs (i.e., MELLLA+ and EFW) including presenting the NRC staff’s review to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS). Used in depth reactor systems knowledge to evaluate the neutronic and thermal-hydraulic coupling during flow instabilities. Successfully led a team that included contractors and experts from other technical branches and offices by establishing and monitoring schedules, finding efficiencies, and establishing reasonable review standards. After the presentation of the staff’s review of the Nine Mile Point 2 MELLLA+ LAR I was commended by the ACRS subcommittee chair for my presentation and the MELLLA+ LAR was delivered in support of the licensees requested need date.Developed the NRR User Need Request with the Office of Regulatory Research to conduct state of the art BWR instability testing to provide a sound basis for regulatory decisions in the expanded operating domain and to further develop analytical capabilities including the TRACE thermal-hydraulics code. Completed a variety of complex reviews while a Technical Reviewer in the Office of New Reactor Regulation including reviews of Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) performance in the presence of debris (i.e., Generic Safety Issue-191). Completed a four month rotation at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant as a Resident Inspector. Responsibilities included independently assessing conditions adverse to quality and providing input to the inspection report.

Created a best estimate simulation of 12 transients using the RETRAN systems code, for a Simulator benchmarking project. Continued the RETRAN project for my Master’s project and attended a RETRAN Users Group in November 2009.Developed a model of the electrical penetration rooms using the GOTHIC transient thermal hydraulics analysis code to calculate the room temperatures during a loss of room coolers.
