About Diego Leon
As a NIH-NIGMS MARC Research Assistant, I collaborate with Dr. Margaret Friend and other researchers in the Infant and Child Development Lab. I assist Dr. Friend in conducting research on language and cognition in children under five years of age study how the COVID-19 pandemic affected language acquisition and cognition in bilingual Spanish speaking children. I have been centrally involved in creating an innovative new web-based Spanish language assessment: the Spanish Web-Based Computerized Comprehension Task (Spanish Web-CCT). I currently oversee administration of the Spanish Web-CCT and am responsible for maintaining and disseminating data on its psychometric properties, guaranteeing the test's efficacy and accuracy. I assist in conducting and analyzing vocabulary tests, reviewing cultural appropriateness of items, and summarizing findings to support scientific and academic publications.I transferred to SDSU with an A.A. in Psychology from Santa Rosa Junior College, and I am currently pursuing my B.A. in Psychology with an emphasis in neuroscience and a minor in Counseling and Social Change, expected in 2025. I am passionate about understanding how children learn and develop in different contexts and cultures, and how to support their well-being and growth.
