  • Teligence
    Business Intelligence Developer
    Teligence Feb 2005 - Jul 2012
    Vancouver, Bc
As a Business Intelligence Developer, I was responsible and accountable for designing and implementing BI processes to enable clients to make better business decisions by providing timely, accurate, and scalable solutions. I received several performance awards for routinely going above and beyond what was required, taking on challenges and working in areas that get scrutinized daily and require absolute attention to detail. • Helped engineer and build a large 4 TB data warehouse from the early stages, from design, ETL development for very large facts, dimensions, and aggregate tables (millions of rows daily), to testing and maintenance.• Responsible for extracting and transforming data into information for all areas of the company, including for directors and executives, so they could make tactical and strategic decisions.• Responsible for analyzing information weekly and reporting to the Marketing Operations director for KPIs such as revenues, calls, minutes, high-value customers, etc, and looking at trends. • Extensively used SQL and SSIS to ETL data from many different data sources into the Warehouse 24/7/365.• Used SSRS, SSAS, Proclarity, Excel, and automated emails to deliver information to business users.• As the Finance point of contact, was responsible for Warehouse data consistently and accurately feeding daily into the Finance system, and responsible for the changeover from E2 to Accpac accounting systems.• Required to write and modify very complex stored procedures (1000’s of lines) with complex business logic, and consistently had a very low defect rate of <1%.• Fully optimized sub-standard code from past developers: one example was improving a procedure from about 2 hours runtime daily, down to about 2 minutes.• Created countless time-sensitive ad-hoc queries for internal business users, external clients, and governments.

    Catalyst Paper Jan 2000 - Dec 2004
    Vancouver, Bc
As a Contract Software Developer, I was a key member of a team responsible for creating their multi-million dollar custom-built Fibre Supply System, which used front-end screens, Oracle, complex business logic, and over 100 reports to manage and reduce fibre costs, and track all aspects of the fibre including inventory, quality, and transportation before it was turned into pulp.• Developed dozens of medium to complex Crystal Reports with deep knowledge of how to effectively use it.• Using PL/SQL, created stored procedures, functions, etc to interface with reports and front-end screens.• Developed front-end screens with Visual Studio, ASP, HTML, VBScript, Javascript.• Ultimately the sole developer responsible for all reports, the reporting system, and the financials in the system.• Consistently had a low defect rate, and routinely cleaned up previously written code that had performance issues.• Improved system response and performance of procedures, in some cases by 1000%.• Communicated well, managers routinely asked me to explain technical things in English so they could understand.• Once development was complete, was 1 of 2 people left that continued to work on maintenance and additional development.
  • Bcaa
    Contract Software Developer
    Bcaa May 2003 - Oct 2003
    Burnaby, Bc
As a Contract Software Developer, I was the single person brought in to their HR department, responsible for developing 40 complex reports from start to finish to help ensure 1000 employees were paid correctly, and report on/administer their benefits.• Required to analyze requirements, then design and develop reports using Crystal Reports and SQL.• Worked closely with the head of HR, as well as other executives and managers, as we had a very tight deadline.• Helped the DBA with database development, writing complex SQL, and creative solutions to overcome obstacles.• Trained HR and IT staff members as part of the knowledge transfer.• Required to work with highly confidential data, and required financial data to be 100% accurate to the penny.
