As a parts specialist, I answer phone calls and greet face to face customers, find out what part or parts they are needing, and explore the best route to meet their needs. We offer new aftermarket, remanufactured and used parts. We also network with other stores and salvage yards, inside and outside of our own company, to provide our customers with the parts they are looking. Strong communication skills are essential in making sure we are getting the right parts for the customers. Most of our customers are farmers who have broken down equipment during harvest seasons, so it's essential to make sure we are getting it right the first time to get them back up and running as soon as possible.

As a field investigator with Riddle and Brantley, I really had a dual role. My first role was to meet with potential clients, briefly go over their cases to make sure they had a case to pursue, explain the law firm's services and sign them up for representation. The second was to investigate assigned cases that had already been signed. This could be anything from re-investigating a traffic crash by talking to officers and witnesses, to finding documentation (police reports, licenses, insurance policies, etc.). This job required a lot of flexible time management due to appointments being scheduled constantly and having to prioritize new investigations assigned amongst others that were already assigned (for example, time sensitive tasks, like obtaining security footage). This position also required excellent communication skills, ensuring that potential clients understood the services the firm had to offer, and building rapport and trust so they would sign up for services. I also had to have a working knowledge of Salesforce, as that was the software platform (cloud based) used to house all company records, contracts, data, etc. I was well versed with the desktop and mobile versions, as I used the desktop in the office and mobile via iPad in the field.

For the first 10.5 years at Goldsboro Police Department, I was a patrol officer, 1.5 years of that as a supervisor (Corporal). My primary duties were to answer calls for service, write reports, proactively patrol my assigned zone for traffic and criminal violations, as well as suspicious activity, and have positive interactions with the public. Once I made corporal, I continued these duties with the addition of checking submitted paperwork, handling use of force reports and other mid-level supervisory duties. I then spent 6 months in crime scene investigation. There I responded to major crime scenes to process for evidence as needed and maintained our evidence software system, PISTOL, ensuring that officers had properly entered evidence that had been collected, and storing evidence properly according to NC general statutes. The last 4 years of my career there I was assigned to our community policing unit. There I was responsible for running several community programs, including GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training), which is taught in elementary and middle schools, and PAL (Police Activities League), which included coaching youth sports teams, coordinating other coaches, and holding camps. I also taught programs to residential groups and businesses on topics like Active Shooter and General Safety. I performed safety surveys on businesses within the city, using the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design model. I also still assisted with calls for services as needed when I was available.
