At the start of my tenure at Sprig & Sprout, I was a cashier. I soon moved up to bartender/server, which encompasses many of those same skills, however, with a greater emphasis on food and drink preparation, table service, customer service, checking IDs, inventory and restocking (heavy lifting and organization) as well as cleaning the bar-back area as well as the dining room. From that point on, as a part of training for becoming a general manager, I learned to line cook, prioritizing health and safety per the requirements set forth by OSHA and the Department of Health, as well as attention to detail in food preparation, detailed culinary knowledge pertaining to consistency, routine, skill, and authenticity, management of inventory, food expiration dates, and presentation of dishes. Finally, as a general manager, I also managed employee absences, acted as a quality control subject, managed the menu and appearance of such, and conducted restaurant-wide inventories, kept track of the financial books, shut down the restaurant at night, and locked up. My Spanish-speaking skills were helpful in terms of communicating with non-English speaking employees.
