About Dillon Teal

Experienced astrophysicist and software developer with a demonstrated history in scientific software development and academic research. Python expert skilled in Fortran, C, C++, and general mathematical modeling. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics (Astrophysics) from the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), a Master's Degree in Astronomy from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), and a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Maryland, College Park.My research focuses on how the atmospheres of planets, ranging from terrestrial, Earth-like exoplanets, to highly irradiated giant planets (or "Hot Jupiters"). I have worked in interdisciplinary teams including geologists, astrobiologists, atmospheric scientists, astronomers, and software developers. I've also lead and been active within software development collaborations throughout my career. I have focused on improving and creating new astrophysical and atmospheric models, as well as web-based applications to make these models more accessible to the general public.I have significant leadership experience as a part of workplace and local communities. I have served on several diversity and outreach committees and have co-founded several organizing bodies. I have a passion for giving back to the communities I am part of in whatever ways I can.I also have a passion for education and teaching. I trained in high school mathematics education while at UCSC (through the CalTeach program), and have two years of formal classroom teaching experience at the University level. I participate in multiple outreach programs teaching concepts in astronomy to the general public across ages and backgrounds.
