I am a representative on the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) Science Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC advises the TMT Board of Directors on the scientific development and utility of the telescope. As part of my responsibilities, I chaired the SAC sub-committee on observatory operations.

I was an associate professor with tenure at Peking University (北京大学) in Beijing, China, with a joint appointment in the Department of Astronomy and the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, where I taught, conducted research, and developed the astronomical community.

I co-founded China's Telescope Access Program (TAP) through which Chinese astronomers have access to observing time on competitive international optical-infrared telescope facilities. TAP is a US$18m program currently funded from 2011 through 2022. I chaired the Advisory Committee that selected the telescope facilities we currently access, and developed and managed the time allocation process.
