Dion Dawson Professional Dispositions Statement Assessment I am a firm believer that the conditions the teacher creates in the room affects students' learning and development. As a teacher it is important that I communicate care, concern, and a willingness to become involved with others. As an educator our job extends beyond the classroom. The impact that we have on each student's life is unmeasurable and we must take that with us every day. We are sometimes the light of someone day. We do not know their home situation, some are good, and some are bad, so it is our job to help them have a positive day every day we see them. After going over the Professional Dispositions Assessment, I hold the characteristics a teacher needs to be a teacher. The areas that are dear to me are ones such as I understand that teachers’ expectations affect student learning, I show qualities of humor, empathy, and warmth, I view teaching as a collaborative effort among educators. Long with many more. I will continue to grow and find new ways to evolve that will benefit not only myself but my students and the teachers around me as well. I believe I have grown in many ways and my knowledge of teaching has gotten broader and I am beginning to understand the different dynamics of being a teacher. I can say starting off I did not know how teaching could affect your outside life but being in this position from taking classes to now being in the classroom I truly see the many hats' teachers wear, the burden they carry especially when you're teaching in a rough neighborhood. I was not aware of the information that teachers receive from students that may leave you worrying about your student each day they leave. Not knowing if the school lunch will be the last meal they eat until they return to school the next morning. These are all things teachers face on a day-to-day basis. I believe there's always room for improvement. The steps I will take will be to continue to learn, have an open mind about everything. Also, I will take the time every two months and do an evaluation on myself. This evaluation will be me reflecting on the past two months, on how my students are doing and how my work life balance is.
