I have been an employer of the U.S. House of Representatives since August 2003 after I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park in May 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Communications.My key responsibilities include writing all constituent correspondence letters on behalf of my Member Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. I also handle key legislative issues in the areas of health, children, poverty, social security, welfare, hunger, women's issues and many other issues. I write statements, work with our legislative counsel in order to get bills drafted in these areas and also work on composing press releases in these related areas.I also serve as the special project manager for Congresswoman Norton's CBC/ALC issue forums and coordinate that event from start to finish. We recently had an issue forum on health and maintaining a healthy lifestyle with the guest speaker as B Smith of B. Smith Restaurants. Other CBC events that I have coordinated were Black women and how they are portrayed in the media (this was spurred from the Don Imus controversy). Guests speakers included Jamie Foster Brown, with Sister to Sister Magazine, Michele Martin, host of NPR, Tell Me More, Julianne Malveaux, and EZ Street, radio personality for WKYS.Finally, I work on press outreach and manage the Congresswoman's congressional website.Specialties: My strengths in my work profession are my strong and effective communication skills both written and non-verbal, great attention to detail, team player attitude, ability to work above and beyond by ensuring that I "get the job done", always willing to help out when needed, superb event management skills and my great initative to always wanr to learn more and perfect my skills.
