As Chair of the Board at the I-TRACK Foundation, I contribute to the development of fact-based, ex-post tracking systems for electricity and other energy carriers, products and carbon removals

With the iREC Foundation, we contribute to the clean energy transition by providing proof that electricity has been produced using renewable sources, thus enabling consumers to source green electricity and providing producers of electricity from renewable sources with an additional revenue stream.

We are living in ‘the climate decade’. What we do between now and 2030 will determine the future of mankind. So we need to get this right! That is why I named my company 2degNRG (“2 degrees energy”). The Paris Agreement puts a global rise in temperature of 2 degrees Celsius as the absolute threshold the world should not exceed. Energy is crucial in achieving this and I want to dedicate my energy to that goal. My goal is to use my experience and capacities to help deal with climate change. My experience as an energy regulator for almost 20 years, combined with my experience in stakeholder management and communication, make me an energy strategist. My ambition is to assist companies, organisations and public bodies with setting up and implementing sustainability programs, especially in energy and mobility.I am not a consultant, I am an expert who provides advice. And if I cannot answer your question myself, I know where to find it from another expert. How can I help?

Als lid van de Antwerpse Klimaatraad zal ik mijn steen (een steentje zal niet volstaan) bijdragen aan het realiseren van de ambitieuze klimaatdoelstellingen die de stad heeft geformuleerd. Ik kijk ernaar uit om dat te doen in het uiterste deskundige gezelschap van de andere Klimaatraad-leden.

Samenleving en Politiek (Society and Politics) is a highly regarded publication in Dutch that deals with political and societal discussions of relevance to Flanders, Belgium, Europe and the world. As member of the editorial board, I participate in establishing the content of the review, either by contributing myself or finding suitable authors for the subjects to be covered. Every year, a yearbook in English is published.

The Customer Empowerment (CEM) Work Stream, working within the CEER Customer and Retail Markets Working Group, focusses on helping National Regulatory Agency's to fulfil the new role assigned to them by the 3rd Package in empowering and protecting customers. The Customer and Retail Markets Working Group (CRM WG) is working under the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER). Work focusses on the retail energy markets for electricity and gas. The CRM WG takes the energy customer's perspective when looking at energy market functioning, smart meters, green electricity offers. CEER fosters competitive energy retail markets and energy customer empowerment.

As Director Markets, I was in charge of the department at VREG (the Flemish Electricity and Gas Markets Regulator) that deals with the functioning of the retail market for electricity and gas and with the market in green certificates, CHP-certificates and Guarantees of Origin. Tasks taken up by my department include: gathering and processing data regarding energy market developments, market monitoring, assessing the financial situation of energy suppliers and issuing supply licences, promoting more efficient and effective functioning of the retail market, the certificates and GO markets, amongst others...

Acting as spokesperson for press contacts, I am frequently in touch with all kinds of media, give press conferences and interviews on national radio and television channels, including items on the evening news, whenever VREG announces a new report or new distribution grids tariffs, launches a new public consultation and is in the news in general.

As president of the AIB – the Association of Issuing Bodies, it is my goal to make the AIB better known in Europe and support its mission to guarantee the origin of European energy.The AIB has created the de-facto standard for Guarantees of Origin (GO) - the European Energy Certificate System (EECS), upon which the formal CEN/CENELEC standard for guarantees of origin for electricity is based; and by creating an inter-registry HUB, is facilitating international trade of GOs in the most reliable and cost efficient way. More and more European countries are aware of this and are joining the AIB, which currently has members or hub users in 21 countries.

As "Communicatieambtenaar", I was in charge of the external communication of my government agency, the Flemish Regulator for Electricity and Gas, VREG. Tasks included the set-up and content of the website, establishing information campaigns on energy retail market functioning, publishing reports on the developments on the electricity and gas markets in Flanders, providing a price comparison tool (V-test) allowing energy customers to compare offers from all the energy suppliers,...

As economic advisor at the studies departement, I was charged with following up, reflecting on and suggesting policy positions on government policy. It also involved participating and representing the organisation in various advisory commissions and management boards, such as the Flemish social and economic council (SERV) and environmental council (MiNaRaad). Also the Flemish Council on Scientific Policy (VRWB) and Federal Council on Sustainable Development (FRDO).
