My role in this internship was primarily fielding calls from locals with injured wildlife and helping inform them of best-care practices or referring them to other centers. Additionally, I utilized Mailchimp to disseminate a newsletter and fundraise for the organization. There was an educational component as well, where I studied the basics of wildlife care and learned different species’ temperaments and predilections (example: protecting your eyes when handling long-billed birds, knowing how to hold an owl so it’s claws don’t harm you). I also utilized my carpentry skills to build rehab cages.
