I am a driven individual with an affinity for languages and deep feelings of attachment for cultures that are not natively my own. This passion led me to specialise in language-related courses at high school (French and Spanish) and to undertake a BA programme in Spanish with Management Studies at the University of the West Indies. There, I also continued my studies in French and took on new linguistic challenges such as Mandarin. During this programme, I was first introduced to Translation, which opened a realm of new possibilities. That exciting experience and my work at the Barbados Tourism Product Authority, which often required me to take on an informal interpreting role, solidified translation and interpreting as my career choice. To adequately prepare myself, I embarked upon a five-month sojourn to Granada, Spain during which I obtained the DELE Spanish certificate (C1) from the Cervantes Institute. Later, I committed to my current postgraduate pursuits in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Manchester from which I will graduate in December 2019. Having completed the theoretical and some practical aspects of my studies I am currently interested in the application of what I have learnt. I am actively searching for employers, colleagues and opportunities where I can add value to my profession and successfully integrate my existing skills with new knowledge and experiences.
