Business Development Intern
This summer I worked as the business Development Intern for a Biotechnology Startup Company that is developing computational tools for Omics analysis of bioprocesses ( specifically microbial fermentation and mammalian cell development). The project I worked on was overseen and in partnership with the US Department of Energy (DoE). Throughout the internship, I got hands-on experience in going over business principles to apply in making analytical-based workflows, roadmaps for long-term projections, and product research at primary and secondary market levels. I mainly was assigned on doing market research on the Pharmaceutical industry and Bio-Ethanol industry. Through the internship, I was able to attend 3 conferences ( BIO International, PEGS International, and North American SAF) these being some of the largest conferences in the world for these industries. Part of my responsibilities as a Business Development Intern was showing the market need for the product to the DoE through customer discovery research in order to identify a strong starting beachhead consumer segment. To do so I performed over 70+ interviews of individuals from business consultants to CEOs of companies. I have been able to get the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the BioPharma industry and the status quo of the current ecosystem to identify the industry's value propositions. I am very thankful for this opportunity and am excited to continue to work with the company in the same position to help the company reach Phase II.
