Repotrial is a multi-centre, Horizon 2020 EU project that aims to set standards for in silico drug repurposing. Further information about the Repotrial project can be found on the website (link in the media section).My role on the Repotrial project is as the principal developer of a database (DB) and application programming interface (API) that form two components of a drug repurposing platform (referred to as NeDRex). As a senior bioinformatician, I worked with wet lab scientists to develop a software platform that augmented the existing enzyme discovery workflows at Prozomix. This software platform helped enhance the commercial impact of metagenomic data by enabling high-throughput analysis of these big data, significantly increasing the enzyme discovery rate at Prozomix Ltd.This work was carried out as part of an Innovate UK project: https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=132161The main… Show more As a senior bioinformatician, I worked with wet lab scientists to develop a software platform that augmented the existing enzyme discovery workflows at Prozomix. This software platform helped enhance the commercial impact of metagenomic data by enabling high-throughput analysis of these big data, significantly increasing the enzyme discovery rate at Prozomix Ltd.This work was carried out as part of an Innovate UK project: https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=132161The main responsibilities of this role were:- Regularly communicating with other scientists to gather specifications for, and feedback on, the software platform.- Workflow, API, and interface development for the software platform. The API and interface were both coded using the Flask framework in Python. Workflows were coded using the Celery framework, also using Python.- Project management, including regular progress reports to existing and potential stakeholders of both Prozomix and the Innovate UK project.- Cybersecurity, ensuring that commercially sensitive data was protected.N.B. This role was carried out as six months of full-time experience during my PhD studies. Show less
