As a large data center migration deadline was moved forward suddenly, I analyzed the amount of effort to migrate hundreds of virtual windows servers from the old datacenter to the new one. I wrote automation scripts to aid in the migration and configuration of virtual servers. This automation aided the team to hit the deadline with some time to spare.One script that was used during the data center move that proved especially useful during and after was the automation of creating new virtual servers from a given template, joining them to the windows domain, and configuring their network setting both locally and within a third party IPAM configuration tool. The automation of this task decreased creation time of virtual windows servers by nearly 600%.Decreased the time required together and consolidate data required for a quarterly audit from 2 weeks to less than 1 hour using scripted automation.
