About Daniel Main
I have over 25 years of experience in computational modeling of complex engineering problems in which plasma processes play a central role. Specific application areas includes low temperature plasma processes used in industry such as wafer processing of silicon wafers, magnetron sputtering, DC discharge, antenna design, ionospheric and magnetospheric modeling, RF propagation through dense plasmas used in fusion design, and the communication blackout problem. I have written several complex models currently used in a variety of industries helping companies save tens of millions of dollars. Other applications that I have helped established for use in industry include ion thrusters and ion sources. I have also modeled EM propagation through complex media including a sophisticated plasma dielectric, which can be used in the communication blackout problem. Lastly, I have worked with the Air Force to design an ELF/VLF antenna which can be ground-based or space based to efficiently launch ELF or VLF waves into the ionosphere and received on the ground or space. I have experience in the following areas:1) High performance computing including multi-core and GPU computing2) Multi-fluid, hybrid, and fully kinetic plasma modeling3) Implicit and explicit computational schemes (electromagnetic, fluid, and kinetic) in hybrid and kinetic plasma modeling3) Low-temperature plasma, vacuum electronics, EM propagation, antenna modeling, ionospheric physicsMy achievements include the following:1.
