Derrick was raised by his parents in a business environment. While living in motels, Derrick had the rare opportunity to consistently see the day to day operations beginning at a very young age. This left quite the impression on him. At the age of 15 he transitioned from observing to participating by engaging in all functions of the business. Over the next seven years he gained working experience at eight different motels and hotels throughout Colorado. However, due to his strong desire to improve himself and his abilities, he wishes to pursue a Communication Arts degree from Western State Colorado University. With an emphasis in strategic communication he will be able to assist individuals or organizations in their communication, marketing, or campaigning efforts. Derrick's style of problem solving revolves around conceptualizing an underlying or related pattern that can be used to optimize a process or situation. For example taking the assembly line template from manufacturing and applying it to the process of room cleaning. Virtually everything can be considered for seeking a benefit or improvement from his theory of pattern solving. Because of his curiosity in technology, culture and the natural world, he will not run dry of new examples to add to his knowledge base. A profound interest in film/literature has lead Derrick down a path of honing his skills of video and audio production to convey information effectively. He is also very conscious of new technologic advances and how they may be used to communicate with an evermore globalized culture. Together, these skills will certainly guide Derrick in creating powerful messages and delivering them to target audiences.
