For the Summer of 2015, I conducted a Research Project under the (SURF) Program at Randolph-Macon College titled: Public Opinion, Political Mobilization, and Government Response to Disaster: A Comparison Between the U.S. and Japan.***This project has been presented at the 2016 annual meeting of the Southwestern Political Science Association, Las Vegas, Nevada, March 24-27, 2016.***In this comprehensive project, Dr. Lauren Bell, Professor of Political Science and Dean of Academic Affairs at Randolph-Macon College, and myself, consider the impact of public opinion and political mobilization on the recovery efforts in the two countries. Moreover, we ask to what extent do the differences in political mobilization within the two countries account for the varying rates of recovery after natural disaster.
