Before starting Thomas Wood Professionals, Don was a partner with KPMG, LLC (the “Firm”) and its predecessor, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. for 35 years. Don led the development of the San Francisco Middle Market Practice and, later, the Firm’s Corporate Finance practice (Northwest). His technical skills were developed as an auditor and he served public and private companies in the transportation, leasing, mortgage banking and manufacturing industries. Following KPMG, in 2005, Don was named Managing Partner for Northern California of Tatum Partners and interim CEO of a $2 billion community bank. He currently serves as Managing Partner of Thomas Wood Professionals and Fairhills Capital and on the board of directors of The Mortgage Capital Development Corp. and crmOrbit (a SaaS company for the utility industry). His clients currently include high wealth families and closely held companies.Don has been an active member of the San Francisco business and not-for-profit community. He was a founding member of the local chapters of the Association for Corporate Growth, the Turnaround Management Association and the Bay Area Business Development Company (now known as TMC Financing, the Western US leading sponsor and originator of SBA real estate loans).He has also served on more than 30 not-for-profit boards of directors/trustees and initiatives including the Host Committees for the Men’s and Women’s World Cup for soccer events in the Bay Area and the San Francisco 2012 and 2016 Olympic Bid Committees (formally known as Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee). Don has five grown children and spends his free time enjoying and appreciating art, music, literature and drama.
