Teaching two graduate level courses in the School Counseling program, one to emerging school counselors who are currently doing their practicum and the other to currently practicing school counselors and administrators in Prince George's County, Maryland.

CollegeSnapps™ is a mobile communication and social networking platform that connects students with the people and information they need to propel them to and through college. By providing students with personalized, high-quality, just-in-time (JIT) information, updates, and alerts through our mobile app and connecting their actions and responses on the app to the adults charged with supporting their educational goals (i.e., school counselors, college access providers, student advisors, etc.), CollegeSnapps™ can increase student engagement thus moving the needle on college enrollment and degree attainment for all students, especially those from historically underrepresented student populations.

Designed high-quality, cutting-edge professional development opportunities for the association's 12,000+ members, including but not limited to conference sessions, textbooks, and webinars; examined current trends in secondary, postsecondary counseling and the transition from high school to postsecondary education; built relationships with sister organizations and other key stakeholders; and wrote content for the website as well as other publications.Developed Critical Components: Mastering the College Admission Counseling conference in 2010 (the first new conference at NACAC in 20 years)Developed Leadership and Career Development Academy preconference workshop for the National ConferenceCreated Young Admission Professional initiative designed to engage and support new admission counselors with the goal of getting them connected to NACAC programming and mitigating their premature departure from the industry

Taught two courses in the School Counseling Master's program--Issues in School Counseling (CE735) and Guiding the College Admission Process (CE730).

The flagship Big Picture High School, The Met School is an innovative urban public school serving over 700 students (predominantly from low-income households) in grades 9-12 and 120 faculty and staff. In this role, I was responsible for pursuing and developing partnerships with colleges, universities and other postsecondary programs to increase student access, retention and completion. Additionally, I supervised, supported and evaluated the work of four Postsecondary Access Counselors and one academic advisor each at the Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. During my time there, we saw measurable gains in college enrollment, particularly in 4-year schools, and a significant increase in the number of students who persisted beyond their first year. Beyond working directly with students and families, one of my proudest accomplishments was conducting research related to the "summer melt" phenomenon and developing ideas to mitigate it.

Designed, redesigned, and taught an innovative and interactive course entitled College Planning and Preparation offered three separate summers for Harvard University's critically acclaimed Crimson Summer Academy--the gold standard of academic summer programs that serves students from low-income households in Boston and Cambridge, MA. The three-summer course (lasting 4, 6 and 8 weeks respectively) covers a wide variety of issues including the socioeconomic issues confronting students from low-income households, affirmative action, time management, goal setting, discovering and pursuing your passions, test anxiety, high stakes testing, building an appropriate college list, writing the college essay, financial aid and finding scholarship money. The goal of the course is to build grit and tenacity in students through transparency and exposure to current research/data regarding the college going/completion landscape as well as to position them for entry into and success at the most competitive colleges in the country.

Although employed by Harvard, I spent every day at Madison Park Vocational and Technical High School in the GEAR UP program, where I developed and implemented programs for the students (in grades 9-12) involved with the program.
