Directed all theater-level Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) efforts of joint Special Operations Forces, prepared and developed concepts of operations, managed time-phased force deployment details, established theater weather data networks using sensors, non-weather personnel and SOF weather operators.   

Trained and equipped special operations weather personnel to conduct environmental reconnaissance and mission forecasting in austere, non-permissive areas. Commanded Air Force’s only special operations weather squadron, responsible for 91 personnel at 6 GSUs and $29 million in equipment. Conducted combat operations with Rangers, Special Forces, the Army’s special operations aviation regiment and Marine special ops providing strategically valued environmental data  Led AFW’s flagship combat unit. In one year, 24 SOWT conducted 263 “outside-the-wire” operations, earning 6 valor medals; only weather personnel ever directly engaging enemy. Redesigned SOWT placement in Afghanistan and aligned weather collection with US Forces-Afghanistan’s top priority: the village stability program.
