Computational Scientist, Owner/ManagerBoreal Scientific Computing Llc May 2013 - PresentFairbanks, Alaska UsaIn May 2013, when the funding for the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center vanished, I started this company to serve as a front for various consulting activities I had been performing, as well as a mechanism by which I might eventually transition out of the academic environment. Activities have included independent contracting for a United Nations project, a National Weather Service project, teaching online graduate level computer science classes for universities, teaching onsite scientific Python courses for an international R&D entity, and always pursuing more activities than I have time for.Most work is done from home, and although demanding, it allows for a certain flexibility that has allowed me to regain my physical and mental health. I only wish I had found the courage to go independent many years ago!
