Career Summary After a career in the NHS and Local Government in personnel and training and development Donald moved to the social enterprise sector to set up a construction training company. 8 years later he changed direction and became the European Social Fund Programme Manager for the Highlands & Islands Partnership Programme where he was responsible for the management of ESF in the Highlands & Islands. He was responsible for project development and appraisal and worked with applicants to bring forward good projects across a variety of areas including, vocational training, FE and HE courses, R & D, business development, cultural and heritage sectors. He was also involved in work as a European consultant working on EU projects in the accession countries. Specific links to Estonia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Poland. Areas of specialism include; project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, labour market issues, design of HR programmes. In 2009 he was invited to assist in the establishment of the Business Gateway Service for the Highland and Moray Council areas and was the manager of this service since its inception until August 2014. After a spell working for Highlands and Islands Enterprise as Strategic Engagement Manager responsible for liaison with Scottish Government and Parliament, Donald has now changed direction completely and is now the Harbourmaster on the small Hebridean island of Canna.Additionally Donald is heavily involved in the Creative Industries in the Highlands & Islands with specific involvement in music, film and TV, web design, social media and journalism. This has involved working with MG Alba, BBC Highland, Bord na Gaidhlig, Midas Media, HI-Arts, Scottish Provincial Press, Highlands & Islands Enterprise.
