Manager Computer DevelopmentSpark New Zealand Apr 1987 - Dec 1991Spark (previously known as TELECOM CORPORATION OF NEW ZEALAND LTD) is New Zealand's national provider of telephone and communications services.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the assessment, development, and implementation of all management information systems, in mini and mainframe environments throughout Telecom, and for establishing appropriate methodologies, standards and techniques to deliver all applications on time, within budget, and compatible with corporate objectives.The department consisted of a team of over 200 and encompassed the management of serval large projects, ranging in size from $2 million to $40 million, with an operating budget of $14 million, and a capital budget of $35 million.Accomplishments- The development and implementation of the District Account System, resulting in a reduction in Accounts Receivable from $700 million to $300 million and Inventories from $400 million to $100 million.- The restructuring of the department in Wellington and Palmerston North to introduce more up to date methodologies and commercial practices.- The establishment of 17 district computer centres and associated network, in conjunction with the supporting organisation structure.- I conducted an overseas recruiting campaign resulting in the appointment of over 20 professionals to provide the required technical and commercial expertise to establish new practices to meet Telecom's SOE requirements.
