I am an organizer and policy strategist with nearly a decade of experience building campaigns, coalitions, and strategic initiatives aimed at fighting voter suppression, championing criminal justice and education reform, and defending the rights of LGBTQ+ people. In 2018, I joined the ACLU of Alabama, where I served as the Policy & Advocacy Director, leading a team of policy strategists and overseeing a broad legislative portfolio. In that role, I gained extensive experience in drafting legislation, direct lobbying, and managing regional advocacy campaigns across the Deep South. My work focused on coalition-building, media relations, and driving public engagement on pressing civil rights issues.Currently, I serve as the Associate Director of Affiliate Advocacy Programs at the ACLU, where I oversee the development and coordination of national strategies that support affiliate engagement. In this role, I work closely with affiliates in key battleground states to fortify their capacity for impactful democracy protection work, including voting rights, criminal justice reform, and other critical areas. I also provide strategic guidance on campaign development and work to connect national resources with on-the-ground efforts, ensuring affiliates have the tools and support necessary to tackle complex civil rights challenges.I'm passionate about building progressive power in the South, mentoring emerging policy professionals, and advocating for civil liberties across the nation. When I'm not working, you can find me contemplating my favorite Beyoncé album or sharing photos of my dog, Langston Malcolm-Jamal Nettles.
