Having come from a government research organisation, where I spent many years as a Research Scientist, eventually achieving the position of Principal Research Scientist, I began my career applying statistical and technical models to decision support applications in the Dairy Industry. Early on, I discovered that there was significant divergence between potential and actual benefits realisation from the new models and technologies we developed and this divergence was largely influenced by human factors such as a commitment to legacy systems, risk aversion and poor systems implementation. This spurred my interest in real world applications of decision support systems and has been a unifying factor in my approach to everything from health informatics to commercial knowledge management.Since becoming a full-time academic in 2000, I have divided my time between funded research, including four ARC linkage projects and teaching from first year to post-graduate level. I have since published over 150 peer-reviewed articles of research andI have a hindex of 18.My commitment to my industry has seen me take on presidencies and committee positions for organisations such as Australian Association of Information Systems and Asian Pacific Decision Sciences Institute, both subsidiaries of international organisations, headquartered out of the US. In addition, I have been a dedicated promoter of the field, mentoring several up and coming academics nationally and internationally. My contributions to the published body of knowledge, including my many publications and edited books have also been part of my commitment to winning attention and credibility for the emerging field of Feral Information systems at an international level.
