Don Moody has been a licensed attorney for over 20 years, focusing exclusively in the information technology, software and telecommunications industries, while representing and advising companies on topics such as intellectual property, privacy law, corporate governance, financial regulation and litigation. He combines a diverse array of legal skills with a top-tier legal education and a deep, hands-on understanding of computers, software and I.T. far exceeding many lawyers.In prior roles, he served as lead Internet counsel for Skype from 2005-2012 before it was acquired by Microsoft, and was also on the front lines of the peer-to-peer (P2P) filesharing ‘copyright wars’ in the mid-2000s, representing a number of Napster-esque companies such as Kazaa and BitTorrent. He also has extensive expertise with domain names and Internet Governance through involvement with ICANN, including leadership roles and membership in various groups such as the highly-influential Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) and representing one of the largest new generic-top-level-domain ("gTLD”) registries. Don obtained his law degree from UCLA, where he served on the Managing Board of the UCLA Journal of Law & Technology (JoLT), and also holds a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS) from Boston University. As a lawyer, he is licensed to practice in California, New York and Washington D.C., the United States Supreme Court, as well as a licensed Patent Attorney. He also holds a number of professional certifications and licenses in complementary disciplines, such as data privacy (CIPP/US), healthcare privacy (CHP) and anti-money laundering (CAMS).
