About Donna Camp

Donna Camp began her professional career more than 40 years ago as a Master Control Room board operator at public radio station WILL-AM-FM. Since then she has worked as an Agricultural Statistician in the Peace Corps; as the project manager for the first paperless individual income tax filing system, TeleFile; and as the CEO of a Virginia consulting firm whose clients included the Centers for Disease Control, the Head Start Bureau, and the American Association of Community Colleges. She is the co-founder and former director of the Wesley Evening Food Pantry. She now uses her experience as a social change-agent at the Wesley Foundation Student Center at the University of Illinois and Wesley United Methodist Church, Urbana.Specialties: writing, social entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, policy analysis, business communications, grants.

    Project READ provides trained volunteer tutors to adults who need and request help to improve their skills in reading, arithmetic, or English as a second language. Project READ students are those adults (17 or older and officially withdrawn from high school) whose current reading or arithmetic skills fall below ninth grade level, thereby hindering achievement of personal goals ( including perhaps obtaining a GED,) or those who wish to develop their ability to speak, use, and comprehend English as a second language.Project READ is made possible by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, using funds designated for literacy. All services, books, and learning materials are provided to students and tutors free of charge. Training workshops for volunteer tutors are held several times throughout the year. Adult learners and tutors might work together in adult education classrooms both at Parkland College and the Urbana Adult Education Center. They may also meet one-to-one at local libraries or public locations throughout the many communities in Parkland College District 505.
