Through the University and Computer Science and Engineering Department, I worked as a Lab Technician maintaining the printers and assisting students/teachers as they used the lab.As an Undergraduate Research Assistant, I worked on a 3 man team for the Department Head on a grant from the Administrative Office of Courts to design and develop a system for illustrating roadway accidents so analysis of cause and prevention could be developed.During this time I also worked with a 4 man group on a senior project with the Electrical Engineering Department to develop a solution to a problem of a human without a voice. We developed the SMyLES system which had electrodes on either side of the throat and with the use of muscle signals and system training a computer generated voice would be heard from a small speaker around the neck of the person to allow them to communicate normally. This project won the team an award at the CSE professional conference. I earned a Technical award also for my participation on the project.

During summers, all school breaks and certain long weekends, I worked for Russell Corporation part time as a programmer for the PERMAC Maintenance System originally designed and developed by MCDonnell Douglas. I began in Summer 1985 doing data entry and creating policies for using PERMAC system. I then moved in Fall 1985 to the Information Services Department to be the PERMAC programmer. I maintained all current reports/screens and created new ones as the Analyst gave designed them.
