I was responsible for leading work on urban planning and photovoltaics within a large European Commission funded project called PV UP-SCALE. This involved looking at the large scale deployment of PV in urban areas within Europe. The issues considered covered the entire life cycle of the systems. These started from the earliest planning and policy stages with integration into local planning policies and master plans for urban areas; through the design and construction process including integration into the work of construction teams and continued to look at the operation phase including acceptance by local communities and householders, social impacts and householder understanding of systems and the effects on long term performance and maintenance.
