offer empathy,compassinon and comfort to all able in their time of need. learned my own life lessons and difficulties as all do. unofficially diagnosed as"asocial" in kindergarten after being separated from my twin for the second time,this time age 4. withdrawn,kept to self,sad etc. official dx-13-14 with severe depression. dx with severe treatment depression by 1996. waiting now to hopfully receive the only treatment that worked for me-vns. it was approved by fda in 2005 for trd,medicare covered it 2006-stopped covering it 2007. no one ever said they didn't work-still and always could get one if pay out of pocket. then they made mor difficult to maintain. I am still wishing to return to meaning and purpose. I feel that though my life remains difficult there are gusts telling me a time,positive is soon to arrive where I will further be able to fufill my life's purpose-to educate all on the truths not the lies of psychological illness. it is time every pt regardless of what made them seek help be treated with dignity,respect,empathy,compassion and comfort-these seem basic but they are hard to find or to be offered in today's medical world biological but even more so when it appears that healing others pain and suffering has become a way to make money too often more so then a place to offer healing and care. to many have become involved in the healing arts for what they can gain rather than what they can give. I know false theories,false information and false means of assisting one to heal are heard louder than the truth of how to assist someone in their pain by,supporting their strengths and their courage to discover the life they deserve is not often even considered. no one can fix/change another but one can walk with them on their journey to health. the biological and psychological are intertwined and inseparable. if you assess and treat for one you will end up with what we have the most of chronic illness/chronic pain. that is not healing. '

worked with aids pts in hosp and were available by phone for any referrals,need or supportive counseling. death and dying therapy,grief work,being with pts during dying process. was on nycity and li regional plans for AIDS. responsible for discharge planning,support group and family work.

assessments of pts were team approach-rn,sw and psychiatrist. sw and psychiatrist discussed and came to conclusion of presenting dx. family room available to iron out family issues if that were reason for difficulity,resolve send home. provide for visit time with family and pt-sw present, locate most appropriate hospital placement or connect with necessary services-intensive case manager,housing,substance abuse referrals and psychiatric referral and/or therapist referral. if time permitted individual time pts with sw to gather further info,supportive therapy and compassion. cpep at stony brook now is a disgrace.

er sw dealing with all those in need of services during the height of homelessness,crack and the beginning of recognizing veterans issues and that AIDS was not selective. worked in main er providing crisis intervention therapy,all necessary services/referrals. covered trauma room and family room -to provide support,death or status info and to prepare them for outcome,to guide them to see pt in recovery or if death let them visit with love one,translate drs. response-"gone" to dead. provide compassion and comfort till ready to leave. worked with crime victims,elderly,homeless,pediatric er,substance abusers and psy er.
