I serve as the first ever Digital Accessibility Specialist at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Prior to this role, I served as a Digital Teaching and Learning Consultant at NCDPI where I supported PSUs in the design and implementation of effective digital teaching and learning environments. I engaged in the implementation of the North Carolina Digital-Age Learning Initiative, where I led efforts related to digital content and open educational resources. As a DTL Consultant, I leveraged opportunities to champion digital accessibility, establishing the foundation for a comprehensive approach to ensuring access to digital resources for all education stakeholders in North Carolina. I currently co-lead the NC Accessible Educational Materials (NC AEM) leadership team and facilitate professional learning related to digital accessibility and AEM at regional, state, and national levels. My career in education spans over 26 years, where I have served as an educator and digital teaching and learning leader in North Carolina. As a parent to a disabled child, I deeply understand the critical imperative of ensuring accessibility for all. I am passionate about the intersection of accessibility and technology and am committed to the inclusive design of educational technology systems.I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Media: Instructional Technology from Appalachian State University. My husband, Brian, and I live in Hickory. We have two children, a daughter-in-law, and a two precious grandsons.
