I was born and raised in the Jim Crow South which means I was not introduced to any black history as part of my education, elementary to junior college. I stumbled upon African American Literature when I returned to school determined to complete my undergrad work in Business Administration. I immediately changed my major to English and Literature and today I dive deep into literature as a means to educate those who declare they don't know enough to engage in any conversation about race in America. If you are interested in knowing a little bit more about me and some of my stories, check out my Tik Tok videos, @donnanotdiva. It's not a formal name but it is one by which I'm known across social media platforms so donnanotdiva it is, and yes, there is a story behind that user name. The Social Book Clubs are DEI focused, created to generate conversation and cultivate understanding through Literature/Media. The books chosen follow the African American timeline in America. The Clubs are affinity group organized. As one raised in the Jim Crow South, as founder/facilitator, I bring to the conversation my personal stories, cultural understanding and insights. I am here for any organization that wants to introduce this component of learning to their DEI program.
