Product Designer, Cad Tech, Cnc Programmer
CurrentThis past year has been interesting for me. My employer has recently filed a patent on one of the products that I designed to secure fragile stemware in moving vehicles such as aircraft and yachts. I am working with electrical engineers to design multiple cases for a device to record video and inertial orientation for firearms. Also, I've been doing some intricate milling techniques with polycarbonates, ABS plastics, aluminium, and other materials. I program CNC machines to produce precision parts, jigs, and tools. My designs and prototypes are shown to a variety of partner companies and clients. My daily tasks involve utilizing precision measuring tools to create parts with tolerances in the thousandths of an inch. I translate those dimensions into AutoCAD and/or Rhino, draw concepts, cut test pieces, coordinate design requirements with team members, then cut complex parts for finished products on multiple CNC machines. My responsibilities include: keeping change logs of the design progress, documentation of material usage for FAA records, and creating notebooks of part specifications.
