Aug 1994 - Dec 2015

Director, Center For Intellectual Property, Information And Privacy Law

Chicago, Il

I supervised four graduate level programs in Intellectual Property and Information Technology and Privacy, 2 LLMs and 2 Masters of Science Programs. These included two fully online degrees in intellectual property. I also supervised the creation of two fully online degrees in information technology and privacy, which were expected to become fully operational in 2016. I established the first Trademark Clinic in the school’s history and also worked closely with our special training program with the State Intellectual Property Office of China so that John Marshall could maintain its 20-year program. I oversaw the successful combination of Center for Intellectual Property Law with Center for Information Technology and Privacy Law and, during my tenure, organized and conducted over 20 conferences, panel discussions and speaker programs. Among the conference topics were: Trade Secrets in Asia and the United States, IP on the Edge, When World’s Collide: Emerging Intersections in Privacy, Information Access and Intellectual Property, IP Protection in BRICS, European Patent Seminars and Climate Change: The Science for Lawyers. My first year as Director, our US News rankings raised from 17th to 12th in the country for our IP program, which ranking I maintained despite severe budget and staff cuts.
