I was a crew member for Echollective from spring-summer of the 2021 season. Echollective is a local, organic farm that has their own CSA and sells to restaurants and grocery stores in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. Being an organic farm, most tasks were done as manual labor and I learned and completed tasks across farm operations, including potting plants, preparing for planting, actually planting, plant maintenance/growth, harvesting, and processing. This job required team work, perseverance, and a positive attitude! I absolutely loved getting to grow food and spend time on the land with a very caring group of people.

I worked as a CVS pharmacy tech for Iowa's long-term care facility COVID-19 vaccine rollout. As the technician I was responsible for reviewing and processing paperwork for individuals receiving the vaccine. I quickly learned CVS's pharmacy software through on the job, trial and error training and worked diligently to enter and process data efficiently. This required lots of creative problem-solving and attention to detail. I really enjoyed traveling around Eastern Iowa and seeing different communities!

I worked directly with individuals experiencing houselessness and mental illness in the permanent supportive housing program of Shelter House, a housing services organization. I served as the supervisor and coordinator of Fresh Starts, a supported employment janitorial business employing residents in the program. I maintained a positive, supportive, team-based work environment by building trust and relationships with employees. I managed business logistics, including scheduling and communication with work sites, and collaborated with fellow staff members on problem-solving and program planning. I appreciated the opportunity to engage in direct care in this position.

I began at Shelter House as an AmeriCorps Vista completing capacity-building indirect service. In this role I built relationships and served as a support to clients in the Fairweather Lodge program. I worked as a research assistant under Dr. Kimberly Marion Suiseeya in the political science department at Northwestern. I primarily worked on the Presence to Influence project, which explores the diverse ways in which Indigenous peoples influence global environmental governance processes, utilizing ethnographic data from political events, such as meetings of the United Nations. I worked extensively on qualitative data management and analysis using Excel and NVivo. I co-led a project that utilized visual images as data, for which I examined thousands of pictures, developed themes and coded images, and compiled analyses in writing. I presented this research at the University of Michigan's Sustainability and Development Conference in 2018.After graduating I was lucky enough to collect ethnographic data for Presence to Influence at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Madrid, December 2019. Other skills I practiced in this position included literature reviews, data visualization, collaborative work processes, editing, and data entry. This was one of the most meaningful experiences I had as an undergraduate student!
