After a major company restructuring the focus became reducing cost and maintaining production. The office I was apart of merged with the Artesia office. I mentored their new Well Tech with the operation of the equipment he would be using. I also set goals on what needed to be achieved in my current role to help the company achieve its aggressive cost reduction goals. These goals included a cost analysis of items within my control, well optimization and chemical management at each facility.

Loco Hills New Mexico

In this role I worked on maximizing profit. I achieved this by shooting fluid levels on all Wells in the Loco Hills field a minimum of once a month. When I found wells with high fluid levels I took the opportunity to train the operator on the minor POC adjustments needed to bring them down. In a few cases I found pumps that were landed higher then they should have been. I was in charge of all well failures. This included verifying the correct failure reason, filing the report and answering any questions about the failure. I also worked with an engineer on ESP design and extending ESP runtimes. The ESP runtimes were increased over 30% on average.

Loco Hills New Mexico

In this time I focused on extending ESP runtimes. To reduce the failure rate I extended my knowledge base on the VFD drives. I learned how to use and program the different run modes in all 5 of the different drives we used. I began putting compressors on wells and/or satellites as well.

Loco Hills New Mexico

As a Pumper II I was moved from a route in Artesia to the new horizontal project in Loco Hills. It was an aggressive development that included pilot wells, 45 ESP’s, 11 satellites all going to a “Mega” central tank battery. I operated the development for the next 4 years. I lined out every satellite as well as the expansion of the battery as the project grew. At the same time I operated 4 other leases. One lease had 50 wells and an older battery. It expanded to over 70 wells and had a new facility built. I was also given 3 new leases that had ESP’s and new batteries built.

I started a contract pumping business that within 6 months employed 4 pumpers. 3 of those 4 worked for and eventually got hired by Apache. Unfortunately in 2014 there was a downturn in the industry and was asked to go company.
