Assisted in development of Strategic Business Plan and Annual Operating Plans for 1997 & 1998. Specified thermoplastic elastomer materials and engineering thermoplastics for various applications in Auto, Consumer, Electrical, Medical/NT as well as Industrial & Construction market segments. Elastomers specified include Styrenic TPE’s, TPU’s, COPE’s, COPA’s as well as various TPV’s. Engineering resins specified include Nylon 6, 6/6, 6/12, 12, high heat nylons, POM, PEEK, PC, PET, PEN, Polysulfone, PPS, PPO, ABS and polyolefins. Assisted in development of sales force automation system. Fill-in for industry management & product management positions during personnel transitions. New business development 1997-1998 $2.7MM.

Development of polymer blends for wire and cable, non-toxic, medical and general purpose molding and extrusion applications. Development of highly FR plenum cable compounds using halogen-donor, zinc, nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, and hydration chemistries; including smoke supression. Compounding of flexible PVC, thermoplastic elastomers, metallocene elastomers using banbury and FCM mixers, as well as single and twin screw extruders. Performed process engineering duties for new products. Wrote procedures and implemented systems for ISO-9002 registration. Familiar with statistically designed experiments, TQM techniques and ISO-9000.

Conducted fundamental studies on modifying polymer blends. Studied Na-Li-Zn EPDM Salt/Nylon 6 blends to create supertough nylon alloys. Prepared samples by melt mixing, extrusion, compression molding and injection molding. Analyzed samples by SEM, FTIR DSC, DMTA and tensile techniques. Explored LCST phase behavior of Li-Zn-Mg sulfonated polystyrene Salt/Nylon 6 systems. Preparation of phase diagrams by DSC and DMTA techniques after solution blending and casting of the polymers. Worked as an employee of the Institute and by independent study.
