I coach leaders navigating challenges, trauma and transition,support development of emerging leaders and work with professionals of all levels around navigating and processing trauma.My experience and coaching are applicable to other business and personal fields beyond public safety.I teach courses that incorporate resonant leadership, emotional intelligence and mindfulness in a framework of intentional change.

I designed and instruct a four course certificate program in Emergency Management that integrated the Vermont curriculum requirements for certification as an Emergency Management Director. This program also included an independent study at the intersection of the students' major and emergency management and a practicum designing, conducting and evaluating a full-scale exercise using the principles of the Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program. This program was the first certificate program offered by Saint Michael's College and was the only higher ed EM program in the state of Vermont at the time.I designed and taught "Issues In Contemporary Policing" This course explored a variety of factors that influence modern policing in the US. We engaged with issues of race and bias, economics, public health, technology and more to develop an understanding of interactions and effects of police and communities. I also taught undergraduate Business Management.

The Director of Public Safety is responsible for all aspects of public safety and emergency management for a private, residential college including developing policies and training for the workforce to ensure safety and compliance with legal standards and best practices. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to the President of the College and Cabinet members on security and institutional safety, compliance concerns and considerations.The Director is responsible for all phases of emergency management, preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation and developing, implementing and updating the Emergency Operations Plan, functional and threat specific annexes. They also conduct emergency and disaster training and exercises for department staff, responders and college officials.In this role I also developed feedback channels including leveraging technology to make department more responsive and accountable and ensure the department reflected the college’s mission, and effectively communicated with multiple stakeholders in writing, presentations and through the media and social media platforms. I helped develop metrics and use statistics, surveys and other data tools to assess impacts of programs and prioritized tasks and objectives, and work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to accomplish those objectives. I was also responsible for developing and proposing new programs using compelling narratives to develop buy-in for major change initiatives and using root cause analysis to troubleshoot, identify issues and develop responses.

Reporting to the Director of the Department of Safety and Security and Emergency Operations, the Associate Director (Assoc. Dir.) collaborates with the Director in the leadership and management of the Department and works directly in managing all activities associated with the day-to-day and long-range operations of the Department. The Associate Director also serves as the Accreditation Manager tasked with advancing the Department accreditation efforts. The Assoc. Dir. serves the important function of maintaining leadership continuity and chain of command and, in the absence of the Director, will assume leadership of the Department. As such, the Associate Director will be an experienced leader and manager who will undertake a wide variety of accountabilities in executing the role.The Assoc. Dir. will play an important role in planning, managing the operations of the Department, and contributing to the development and organization of its administrative policies and procedures. The Assoc. Dir. has direct responsibility and accountability for the general patrol function of the Department, communications operations and crime prevention. The Assoc. Dir. will also conduct and analyze survey data regarding department activities in order to make recommendations and implement operational changes. As a key leader in emergency planning and response, the Assoc. Dir. will work closely with the Clery Compliance Coordinator and the Emergency Manager in operations-related issues of Clery compliance and assist in coordinating a college wide emergency response plan, to include emergency communications. This individual partners with Department investigators in special assignment and special investigations, and oversees and carries out internal affair investigations.

The Vermont Emergency Management Association was created to connect anyone in the state of Vermont with ties to the Emergency Management field, to foster growth, expand resources and advocate for the field. I worked with a small group of people over the course of more than two years to incorporate the VTEMA in February of 2019.

The Northeast Colleges and Universities Security Association (NECUSA), established in 1953, is the oldest campus law enforcement organization in the United States. Originally intended to be a small group of campus security and police professionals coming together to share information on issues facing their campuses, the organization grew from eight loosely organized members to an organization over 400 members strong.Members represent a broad range of institutions: public and private; four year and two year; large universities and small colleges. Some have sworn police departments and some non-sworn security or safety departments. Although the association has no specified geographic area, member institutions are from Maine south to Maryland and west to Ohio.
