Supervised and scheduled underground utility, grading, and paving crews. Coordinated work with clients, processed RFI’s, and change orders. Projects included Kind Farms ($1.2 million), Salinas Soccer Complex ($10 million), Rubio’s Truck Terminal ($1.2 million), Old Dominion Truck Terminal ($2.5 million), Quinn Cat remodel ($1.8 million), plus several culvert replacement and paving projects for San Benito County.

I was hired for a project in Morgan Hill, CA. After the company relocated me from Colorado to Hollister, CA, the project fell through. The G.C. has no other projects available, so I was given a severance package and laid off.

Built a four-story, 95 room Hampton Inn Hotel with indoor swimming pool in Colorado Springs. Currently working for an ownership construction group out of Alabama who are not familiar with Colorado Springs building requirements. This has posed a challenge, in addition to COVID, with PPRBD now being online-only. Assisted in incorporating Colorado Springs requirements that the design team was not aware of during initial design.

Built a Hilton Home2Suites in Colorado Springs, CO. It is an upscale $10.8 million, four-story, 119 room (+ pool) hotel with a 20,000 sq. ft. footprint. During initial site excavation, we encountered water at parking lot sub-grade depth. It was flowing at an area of 200 feet across the site at a rate of 1300 gallons/hour. This delayed the project and created the challenge of a field-engineered design to re- direct the water from infiltrating the building footprint.The company assigned an assistant superintendent from Sudan for me to mentor and train in American construction practices. We developed an excellent working relationship and he became a valuable asset to the project. He later oversaw completion of another hotel project in Durango, CO.The G.C. I worked for is located in Nebraska. They had no further work in Colorado, so I was laid off after this project.

I was hired to be a project manager/vice president of their Austin, TX commercial division. This position never materialized due to the company’s lack of manpower for a recently acquired contract with the Dollar General Corporation. I was assigned to build two Dollar General stores simultaneously in Corinth, and Walnut, Mississippi. The stores were approximately $1 million each, consisting of pre-engineered metal building, all exposed structure inside, ground/polished/sealed concrete floors. One store was 7500 sq. ft., the other is 9800 sq. ft.After completion of these projects, instead of going to Austin, I was to be assigned three more Dollar General Stores in Mississippi. At this time, my wife and I decided to accept a position in Colorado Springs.

Built Love's Travel Stops in Italy, TX and Lake, Mississippi. They were new $8.5 million projects on 17-18 acre sites.Italy, TX: Two single story structures, approximately 10,000 sq. ft. each.Site improvements: new water main for city and county, relocate existing power/communication poles to accommodate road expansion per TX DOT.Travel Stop included truck service/tire care center, CAT scales, convenience store, Carl's Junior restaurant, 97 semi truck parking places + 74 car parking, shower facilities, fuel system with six 20,000 gallon tanks plus one 12,000 gallon DEF tank.Lake, Mississippi: 11,000 sq. ft. Love's C-store / truck stop with three restaurants (Subway, Chester's Chicken, Godfather's Pizza), plus a separate 11,000 sq. ft. Tire Shop / Truck MaintenanceCenter, including a lube pit. The truck canopy has 9 diesel pumps, featuring a truck scale. The auto canopy has 7 fuel dispensers and a separate RV dump station.Several challenges due to poor soil conditions included building footprints over-excavated 8 feet, all paved areas over-excavated minimum 3 feet, and placement of select fill. The close proximity of fuel tanks to back of building required re-engineering and 25 foot sheet pilings were installed between building and fuel tank hole to stabilize sub-grade.I left Harman Construction on excellent terms to accept a higher position with R.J. Allen & Associates.

Built a $16 million behavioral health hospital/rehab facility in Georgetown, TX and Olathe, KS. They were 52,000 sq. ft., 72-bed hospitals with three separate wings: kitchen, dining hall, office spaces. Special construction considerations featured all non-ligature hardware, all exposed fasteners to be tamper-proof.On the Georgetown, TX project they accelerated the schedule to open the hospital before a competitor’s facility that was under construction in the area. I was able to keep that schedule and budget.After the Kansas hospital, I went to work for a G.C. in Texas who had steady projects ready to go.

Ground up 220,000 sq. ft. car dealership with service dept., parts dept., and used car bldg in Oklahoma City, OK. Built an Orthopedics Doctors' office/clinic, including an MRI, full physical therapy unit with in-ground pool, dedicated x-ray room. Took training class in requirements for MRI installation.
