I have practiced law for over 40 years. I am currently licensed in Wisconsin (active) and Indiana (inactive). My legal experience includes municipal law (24 years), labor/employment law (11 years), bankruptcy/creditor's rights law (3 years), criminal prosecution (2 years) and civil litigation (2 years). My last legal position, which I held for 24 years, was as corporation counsel for a mid-sized Indiana municipality. In this position, in addition to managing the city's law department, I appeared before numerous courts, agencies, boards, commissions, and legislative bodies. I also drafted numerous ordinances, policies, leases, purchase agreements, and other legal documents. I previously served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and as Chief Trial Counsel at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. I remain active in the International Municipal Lawyers Association ("IMLA") and am a certified IMLA Fellow due to my expertise in municipal law. I have also served on the IMLA Board of Directors and as Chair of the IMLA Litigation & Risk Management Section. I have also served as Chair of the Municipal Law Section of the Indiana Bar Association. I have presented both in-person and remotely at over 110 legal seminars and workshops, authored law review articles, legal articles, and a newspaper legal column. I have been rated a top speaker at every IMLA and Indiana Municipal Lawyers' Association seminar and workshop at which I have spoken over the last two decades (1999-2024).In addition to practicing law, I have taught undergraduate and/or paralegal students for over 20 years. The majority of my teaching has been at Indiana University. However, I have also taught at Aurora University, Trinity International University, and the American Institute of Paralegal Studies. My student class evaluations have always exceeded 3.75/4.0. I have received both a Best Instructor Award from Indiana University and an IMLA Faculty Award. My educational degrees include an LLM (Georgetown Law Center), a JD (University of Wisconsin School of Law), a PhD (Walden University), a MA (Butler University), and a BA (University of Wisconsin-Madison). I am in the process of earning a second PhD (Liberty University). I have served on the board of directors or as general counsel for numerous non-profit organizations and have received a community leadership award. I am an honorably discharged veteran.I tried retirement from 2021 through mid-2024, but found it less than thrilling. I re-activated my Wisconsin law license in June, 2024 and hope to be back in practice very soon.
