Douglas A. Thomas, PE grew up in Malvern Pennsylvania, west of Philadelphia, and attended Ohio Northern University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1996. Post-graduation Doug worked as a Civil and Environmental Consultant throughout Ohio until 2004. Work included project management for brownfield redevelopment projects, and minor involvement in Civil and Environmental Design. Significant projects during this period included the new (then) Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio, Highway projects, high-rise building projects in down town Columbus, and the new 6R-24L Runway at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. In 2005, Doug began his employment with Independence Excavating, Inc. as a Project Engineer. He has honed his craft, advancing into the role of Senior project Manager, and has successfully completed projects in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. Doug now holds the title of Vice President, but still functions as a Senior Project Manager, and can still knock an RFI, or a Submittal or two out, when needed. Doug Holds Professional Engineering Licenses in Ohio and West Virginia, but his passion remains in Project Management, with very little focus on design. He also holds qualifying General Contractor Licenses on behalf of Independence Excavating, Inc. in West Virginia, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and Arizona. The highlights of Doug’s career include constructing two Federal Correctional Institutes in West Virginia, The Cleveland Convention Center and Medical Mart in downtown Cleveland, surgical demolition of the Florida Citrus bowl, Highway Projects including WVDOT Route 9, multiple phases of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the new Southern Beltway in Pittsburgh. Doug is always willing to tackle a complicated project in new locations, meeting challenges and obstacles head on to further the work of the DiGeronimo Companies, and Independence Excavating, Inc.
