Research Scientist - Principal InvestigatorSeti Institute Dec 2002 - PresentMy work as been around the interface between instrumentation hardware and data analysis software. I am currently a Pipeline Support Scientist for NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) Mission. I recently served as Instrument Scientist for NASA's Kepler Mission, where I was responsible for monitoring the performance of the science instrument -a wide-field CCD photometer, characterizing the instrument and developing/updating calibration models, supporting the image processing/data processing pipeline, and identifying and resolving instrument anomalies.Prior to launch in March 2009, I led the characterization of the photometer and the creation of the calibration models. I participated in instrument testing at NASA Ames and Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp., analyzed test data, and provided instrument performance updates to the project and the science team. I worked to assess the risk to the mission of anomalies uncovered during testing, to resolve anomalies where possible, and to model the scientific impact and those which were deemed too costly or risky to fix. -
Kepler Photometry ScientistSeti Institute Oct 2001 - Nov 2006I provided science support during the development & design phase of the Kepler Mission, a satellite search for transiting habitable planets. My duties were to develop and prototype science analysis routines, define Science Operations Center requirements, develop Ground System operations scenarios. I Prepared and presented review packages at preliminary and critical design reviews, participated in mission level trade studies, such as field of view selection -
Pi - South Pole Exoplanet SearchSeti Institute Oct 2002 - Sep 2005Principal Investigator for a telescope to search for transiting extrasolar planets from the South Pole. The project was funded by a National Science Foundation grant of $255K for three years. The team I led designed, built, deployed and operated an automated CCD photometer to search for transits from the South Pole. I defined the science goals, oversaw instrument design and construction, lead instrument operation, trouble shooting, and data analysis. I lead two international deployment teams to the South Pole to install and then repair photometer. -
Research AssociateNational Research Council, National Academy Of Sciences Sep 1998 - Sep 2001Worked on the Vulcan transit search project at NASA Ames Research Center. I worked on all aspects of the project including telescope design & construction, control and analysis software development, planning and carrying out observations, analyzing data and interpreting results.
