A graduate of Harvard College, MIT, and the Harvard Medical School, I trained in Plastic Surgery at the NYU Institute of Reconstructive Surgery and Upper Extremity Surgery at UCLA. Outside of the OR, my passion is human rights, particularly women’s rights, and all-things Afghanistan. I consult for the UNHCR, UNICEF, and other organizations related to human rights & the displaced/marginalized.Clinically, I practice Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery with special interest in Human Appearance, Peripheral Neurosurgery and Limb Reconstruction. I serve as Qualified Medical Evaluator for the State of California and as an expert witness in state and federal courts on issues related to bodily injuries and disability causation & apportionment. I also develop & manage surgery centers across the U.S. bringing an interested in health systems innovation and bringing cutting edge medical technologies to the ambulatory markets.Medicine is my ministry. In addition to healing people's bodies, I am a seeking person of faith with a deep commitment to Mission, both internationally and locally. By Mission, I mean that we are all called to do our Creator's good work in the world (Missio Dei) in whatever personal and professional circumstances S/He places us. I feel I am called and situated to empower individuals by healing bodies and hearts, restoring wholeness, and to reify our living out as blessed beloved creations. I am particularly called to serve the children and women of Afghanistan.I serve as Commissioner to the San Francisco Presbytery and Elder to the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley. I am also Co-Founder of the Harvard Christian Alumni Society (the first Harvard-wide association of Christian alumni in the university’s 385-year history!) and serve on the Board of Directors of the Harvard Alumni Association.“Meet me at the intersection of Healthcare and Human Rights!” I have committed myself to fighting for justice, gender equity, and human rights through the compassionate and faith-informed practice of medicine and public health. I am dedicated to ending the scourge of human trafficking and violent radicalization, both of which which represent preventable public health crises as well as criminal justice matters. I stand for the rights and empowerment of women and girls and marginalized peoples and have a particular passion for the women and children of Afghanistan.
